Meet the Icelandic Horse!

On this Farm visit & Riding tour you will learn about the famous Icelandi horse, the’re story and the people who take care of them

Customers are picked up from their location. Upon arrival at the farm, customers have the opportunity to take part preparing the horses for the ride. One hour horseback ride (on ice, if the conditions permit). After the tour, customers have an opportunity to visit the sheep and get to know life on our farm. Customers are taken back to their place of stay.

The whole experience is ~ 3 hours (2,5-3,5 hours approximately).

The tours depart from Álftagerði farm on the south side of Lake Myvatn. We ride on the lake, providing a unique view of the area. Our horses have snowshoes which gives them the stability they need for walking on ice.

There will be some occasions where we cannot ride on the ice, usually due to too much snow in the trail. In that case we ride on land in the vicinity of the farm where we are able to ride, given the conditions of the ground. From the time when the ice on the lake starts receding and it is no longer safe for us to ride on, our rides will be solely on land. This usually happens towards the end of March/very beginning of April.

What’s included?

A visit to the farm, horseback ride and helmets for each rider.
